Green Strategies for Building Design
Assignment 1
Poster

Booklet

Assignment 1 was a valuable opportunity to dive deeply into passive green building strategies by comparing two case studies from different climatic contexts. This process trained me to identify, analyze, and evaluate the performance of design elements such as natural ventilation, façade treatments, and landscaping within specific environmental and cultural settings. Working in a group honed my collaboration skills and exposed me to different perspectives, while producing the poster, booklet, and presentation required a balance of research clarity and creative communication. The comparative approach also helped me recognize how strategies are adapted to suit climate differences, which inspired me to think critically about the adaptability of design concepts. This assignment gave me a solid foundation for integrating these strategies into my own projects.
Assignment 2

Assignment 2 was a direct application of the knowledge gained from both the lectures and Assignment 1, where I incorporated passive and active green strategies into my architectural design studio project. The challenge lay in aligning sustainability goals with my design vision, ensuring that strategies like site-sensitive planning, daylight optimization, natural ventilation, and strategic landscaping were not only functional but also enhanced the spatial experience. I learned the importance of integrating green systems holistically, such as rainwater harvesting and renewable energy considerations, so that they become an inherent part of the building’s form and operation. The process of documenting and presenting these strategies deepened my understanding of how theory translates into practical, context-specific solutions. This assignment reinforced the importance of designing with both environmental responsibility and human comfort in mind.
